I’ve been loving on Dyna Moe’s Hipster Animals since, I dunno, uh, before people knew what Pinterest was. The NYC-based artist and comedian draws artisanal (that means “cool and rare,” right?) animals who inhabit spot-on social niche stereotypes. I commissioned her to do an OCD Content Curator portrait of me, but as fate would have it, that rodent effigy was months before I’d meet my true spirit animal, Tard. Tard (aka Grumpy Cat) is a snowshoe cat, the subject of a popular meme and now, thanks to Dyna Moe, he’s the face of the “over it media critic” on a new Hipster Animals T-shirt (above).
Hipster Animals are equal opportunity parodies. Dyna Moe mines all the social networks for hipster stereotypes. There’s the “full-time etsy crafter,” the “Instagram narcissist,” and the “Pinterest super-user.” There’s animals doing pilates and brewing kombucha. There’s folks who take their self-styled careers a little too seriously. There’s surefire career bets for 2013 (like the Nail Art pangolin or the Weed Delivery auklet.) Naturally, Wes Anderson also makes an appearance.
If you don’t understand any of the words in the previous paragraph, my spell-checker feels your pain. But if you do get it, and you think it’s all very funny, swap your usual ironic T-shirt for one of these gems. You can pick character designs on men’s and women’s style shirts in 21 colors. Fun! Check out the full range of Hipster Animals T-shirts, prints and tote-bags here.
