Unseen Pleasures: a Joy Division Papercraft
|I’m posting this for Kyle N and also because I need to shake off that icky feeling of having Chris Brown on my blog. French graphic designer, David Benmussa, created this Joy Division papercraft tribute to Unknown Pleasures and Peter Saville. It’s called Unseen Pleasures, both a nod to Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures album and the idea that one could use the sense of touch to “see” this artwork. It takes great patience to execute these kinds of papercuts. I know, because I tried to do it once, and ended up opting for a sticker instead. Bermussa Unseen Pleasures can currently be seen (and possibly touched) at The Music Covers Exhibition, which runs through January 14th, 2012 at the Point Ephemere in Paris.

Immediately after publishing this, it occurred to me that I’ve heard talk of Ian Curtis having had a history of Chris Brown behavior as well.
This is awesome, quite possibly the best album cover of all time, especially the textured Lp version. Ian was totally a shitty human being also, but made amazing music. I think we could all agree he had some serious mental and physical issues which partly drove his frustrations and behavior, but once again there are no excuses.
A good friend of mine went through experimental epilepsy treatments during the 90’s. I must say, it makes a different person out of folks. Agressive, impatient, reclusive, obsessive. Almost cruel. I can’t imagine how earlier treatments from the 70’s effected someone like Curtis, particularly paired with alcohol.
