The Bubblegum Adventures of Periwinkle

Last week, when I posted a studio visit to Hong Kong’s Crazy Label, I had to blur out part of a picture. Now it can be shown (but I have to blur something else…). The Bubblegum Adventures of Periwinkle is a new mini-series (more of a mini-mini series, really) by the always-adorable Bubi Au Yeung. The figures were produced for the UK’s Playlounge by Crazy Label.

This would be sort of a cute “toy boyfriend” to Rilla Alexander’s imaginative Sozi resins (if you are the type who partners up your playthings (and doesn’t mind when the girl is taller than the guy…) Periwinkle is being sold blind boxed, but the 1:3 odds ain’t bad. Each box contains a 3-inch vinyl Periwinkle “with action posable arms and dynamic multi-directional head movement.” You also get a detachable gum-bubble, a fold-out comic strip and “any one of three possible ‘mystery-packed’ accessories to help Periwinkle in his adventures…” I dig all three: bowler hat, umbrella and satchel, so there’s really only winning here.
