Belladonna by Amanda Louise Spayd

Belladonna by Amanda Louise SpaydIf you start to see more soft sculptures on this blog, you can blame thank Amanda Louise Spayd for re-opening my eyes to the medium. She is currently offering an edition of 50 handcrafted Belladonna figures here. All sculpting, casting, painting, and sewing is done in-studio by the artist. The mixed media figures are painted and sewn and include a cast-resin face with translucent, dirty teeth and glossy black eyes. It’s quite possible you could try to deduct Belladonna on your 2011 taxes under “aromatherapy,” as the figures are stuffed with cotton and hardwood sawdust and “lightly scented with the essences of sandalwood, dark chocolate, resins and berries.”

Belladonna Ear Fabrics

Each Belladonna is signed and numbered by the artist. They’re being offered for $80 a piece in a blind-box style that opens you up to the mysteries of three different ear fabrics. The 10-inch figures are packaged in a brown paper gift box sealed with a label and colored twine. You can expect them to arrive about 2 weeks after your purchase. Click HERE to adopt Belladonna.
