If the hipsters ruined “put a bird on it,” it might be time to try “put a foot on it.” Dylan Kendall went out on a limb and built a ceramics company around the idea that feet = fun. She thought everyday objects could be humorously enhanced with the addition of feet. I think she was right. Her tabletop tootsies are currently on sale at 20% off on Fab.com. Let’s talk about this.

Coffee rules. One need not try to improve upon coffee. But if you stop to think about how office dwellers consume coffee in their cubicles, you could certainly make the experience more whimsical. And whimsy is central to Kendall’s philosophy.

Dylan Kendall philosophy

Kendall, who spent a decade in public service leading art-based initiatives for at-risk youth, believes in laughter and unbounded creativity. Also like me, she believes that objects tell stories and play isn’t just for children. (Right: they’re also for cats.) As a lovely bonus, she believes in the power of bloggers.

In Day 1 – The Day the Blogs Noticed the Bowls, she writes:

Hit by a flash of brilliance and with tons of being-unemployed, drinking-lots-of-coffee time on my hands, I figured “what the hell” and decided to try my luck at the blogs to get the bowls noticed. I google searched for the top 20 design blogs and began writing. I penned massive notes– about my story, the bowls, I was humble, I was funny, I rambled. Something in there worked. Or the bowls just sold themselves. Three design influencer sites picked up the bowls. Beautiful Life, Design Milk and Swiss Miss. From there my google alerts rang off the hook. Blogs from all around the world were profiling the bowls and order requests from as far away as Brazil to Korea were landing in my email box!But the coup d’etat — the game changer – came in the form of two emails. One from Australia and one from New York. Collectively these two emails represented an interest it a whole LOT of bowls.

I love that story. And I kinda love Kendall’s eFeet collection.
