Haute Couture Kaiju Collectors Cabinet
If you thought Maurizio Galante’s Cactus Couch contained mixed messages, feast your cycloptic eye on this curio cabinet. Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman work together as INTERWARE, a “society for transversal design: a crossover of design, art, architecture and life that ignores common delimitations.” One such common delimitation? Designing a velvet-curtained gilded collectors cabinet for Japanese monster toys. So wrong, it’s right!
The duo originally designed the toy showcase for the Centre Pompidou‘s Planète Manga! exhibition last year. “A haute couture screen protects the collection like a stage curtain.”
The mdf structure is offered in limited edition colorways of lacquered gold or black with millings for shelves and slats. When it’s time to say goodnight to all your little smog monsters, you can close the cabinet with lush curtains in magenta, black or gold.
I know this is the perfect solution to one kaiju collector’s display dilemma. If it’s you, please drop me a line. In the meantime, I’ll just keep following Galante because he’s AMAZING.
