Zef Rap Rave duo Die Antwoord is a sight and sound situation. Maybe it’s something to be filed under “You had to be there.”
Die Antwoord’s Ninja and Yo-landi brought their odds-defying blend of South African sounds to an ironic eyewear-sporting crowd of white kids who’d found their way to Yerba Buena Island for the Treasure Island Music Festival.
It was easy to navigate my way to the stage by following the sound of a childlike voice shouting “fuck fuck fuck”. Whether or not this is a stunt, who cares: Die Antwoord has committed to it. I mean, check out those haircuts. This band is fun. I didn’t dance, but I definitely laughed. And I shot a few clips of the jumbotron. Here’s one now.
