I love this sculpture by Charlie Becker based on the artwork of Los Angeles-by-way-of-Belgium graff artist/designer Chase.
As a public service Chase paints free murals around the world depicting young children with the text next to them saying: ‘Remember Who You Are.’
What a great message. It’s a topic I’ve been thinking about while curating, Earth Movement, a kid-parent collaborative art show. Hang onto who you are. (And not in an “I’m still Jenny from the block” kinda way either.)
Three versions of the Remember Who You Are sculpture were produced in 2010 for Chase’s show at LA Contemporary gallery: one cold cast in bronze, one in nickel and one in fluorescent pink resin. Each piece was 10 inches tall.
I’m assuming the sculptures are long gone (PLEASE contact me if I’m wrong), but you can find $30 T-shirts and $60 prints featuring the same imagery and message in Chase’s shop.
Click through for photos of Chase’s work in cities around the world and closeups of the sculpture. And Remember Who You Are!
