MAQET Reveals Holiday Collection with Frank Kozik and Friends

MAQET 2011 Holiday collection

With this one perky post, I do hereby neutralize a handful of my darker musings about politics, neurosis and…I don’t know…roadkill. See, I’ve been working on MAQET‘s 2011 Holiday Collection, and it pretty much contains enough cheer to last a whole year. (Thank goodness, I’ll be able to return to malevolence in < 30!)  Shin + Nao, Scott Tolleson, Frank Kozik and Yosiell Lorenzo designed fun, festive skins for the forms they created, and thanks to MAQET’s futuristic process, the characters are already coming alive in the laboratory.

We gave the artists a brief, and it was brief in every sense of the word: short turnaround time and the simple instructions that we wanted to see their visual definitions of “holiday”. The artists gave us back something uniquely their own and yet cohesive as a MAQET collection. Kozik combines the anarchistic with the adorable; Shin + Nao crank up the kawaii til it’s off the charts; Scott shows us how one form can be a canvas for a spectrum of fantastic, fully developed characters; and Yosiell created the kind of Kris Kringle one might run into at the Folsom Street Fair.

When you buy a MAQET, you’re supporting an environmentally responsible small company, founded by an artist, and located in the San Francisco Bay Area. MAQETs are designed by independent artists all around the world and made with pride by artisans and engineers in a secret Northern California lab. MAQET fuses technology and humanity in its quest to enable creativity. The goal is to break down the barriers between designing and making affordable art multiples. I think the brand new 2011 MAQET Holiday Collection achieves this. All MAQETs in this post are priced at just $25 or $35 each and $50 for a pair. You have the option to choose between freestanding figurines and collectible ornaments. Shop here.

I’d also like to put this out there for collectors who factor in ethics: MAQET has one of the most artist-friendly royalty programs out there. Unlike most designer toy companies, the artists mentioned on this page receive a percentage of every purchase. So support good people, and order up a piece of Plastin® today! MAQET is GUARANTEEING all orders placed by December 15th (standard mail) and December 21st (Fedex Overnight) will arrive before Christmas. Click through for more of the holiday collection.
