This goes out to everyone whose parents or partners have “no shoes on the sofa” policies. Brooklyn-based artist, Lou Pimentel, is giving you a loophole: Sneaker Art Pillows.
Pimentel has been “obsessed” with sneakers since the early 80s. Although he’s painted countless kicks in his unique watercolor style, this is the first time his work will appear on lifestyle products.
Pimentel painted the original Nike Dunks and Converse Chuck Taylors for gallery shows, but was encouraged by his fans to make the work more accessible. Hence, the pillows:
“I created the pillows because I love art, and many times I cannot afford originals from the artists I admire…with the pillows, you just set them down and you are done!”
The 12” x 12” pillows are made by hand from a micro fiber velvet exterior with high-density blown fiber filling. I’m told this is just the beginning of the Lou Pimentel lifestyle takeover, so brace yourself (preferably, with a pillow). “Dunks” and “Chucks” are available for $40 each directly from the artist here.
Bonus: I begged Lou to share this before and after image because game recognizes game! You’re looking at a guerrilla sneaker art pillow photo shoot at IKEA. That’s right…Pimentel Photoshopped all those Expedit, etc. tags into oblivion. I’ve totally done this before. There’s still a schism between artists making lifestyle products and actually living the lifestyle. In between the two, there is IKEA. Help Lou get himself some new flat-packed furniture by purchasing one of his pillows today!
