For fans of Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon needs no introduction. But for insight into her art outside of music, thankfully, there’s Wikipedia, where one finds that she’s been part of the visual arts for three decades.
Now, members-only art site, Exhibition A, is releasing two inkjet prints on stretched canvas by Gordon. Your Self-Portrait and Larry Gagosian are both signed, limited editions of 50.
Larry Gagosian and Your Self Portrait are signature Kim Gordon work. Her word paintings have been based on underground noise bands, song lyrics and random phrases. Here Kim debuts, Larry Gagosian, a work from an art dealers series that explores ideas behind the gallerist’s “brand” surpassing the artwork itself. In Your Self Portrait, Kim plays with the message of Exhibition A and offers an accessible alternative to a commissioned portrait.
Interesting work, especially as more and more people discuss the role of gallerists in the art community. Each piece costs $250, and you have to register to join the site first.
