Shing Yin Khor’s Comic-Con Wunderkammer
Shing Yin Khor (aka Sawdust Bear) seems to be setting up some kind of Wunderkammer at Comic-Con. “They” are trying to contain her at Small Press table P-16, but we’ll see…
Khor will have a spectrum of one-of-a-kind polymer clay monster pins; original sculptures including pinned squids, Fiji mermaids and hand-painted Scaleybugs; and her first cast-resin Larms in Candy, Ghost and Malayan Rainforest editions.
In terms of a Larm, Shing had me with the titular pun. But she brings it home with her story of the small endangered reptiles with the hard, round carapaces and soft, stumpy bodies with a propensity for wailing through bouts of anxiety. The Larms are cast in small editions and hand-painted by Shing in batches of five or less because “I’d get pretty bored if I had to paint 20 of them the same”.
Adoption fees for the Larms range from $50 – $125. Click through for more images and info.
