Practically Impractical Japanese Everyday T-shirts

You know when you stumble upon something online and end up in that true Internet web going from one link to the next and suddenly, somehow over an hour has passed? That just happened, and I’ve got Mrs. Noto to thank/blame.

Mrs. Noto is a Japanese design duo consisting of (all factual errors shall be pinned upon Google translation) a husband and wife. Both Mr. and Mrs. Noto are graduates of the product design program at Kanazawa International Design Institute. The Notos continued their design studies in the Netherlands, acquiring sewing skills as well. In 2005, they founded a T-shirt brand and attempted to reproduce “commonplace, everyday scenes” using the T-shirt as their canvas.

It is truly impossible to pick a favorite among their collection of Everyday T-Shirts. Each shirt seeks to incorporate some element of an everyday object’s functionality. The Blinds Shirt features a real cord. The Vacuum shirt has a clever fold as if the vacuum is sucking up the corner of the fabric.

Each shirt is more whimsical than the next. Or quoth Mrs. Noto: “Balance of reason and sensibility, the discovery of potential chain of casual, sometimes the product is born.”

Everyday Japanese T-shirts

The Everyday Shirts appear to be marketed more toward women and children, but a male model pops up for several of the tees. Doesn’t he just look stoked to be wearing them? I would have a permagrin if I was wearing a shirt with a tricycle and real ribbons! As such, I couldn’t help coming up with captions as I was looking through the collection. Left to right: 1) My life is an open book! 2) My life is going down the drain. 3) I am waiting for someone to whisk me away from this photo shoot. 4) Um, yeah, I’m starting to tire of this…
