Part two of the art benefit, Rise Japan, took place last night in San Francisco at ARC Studios. The space was packed with a ton of affordable art, all proceeds from sales going to help relief efforts in Japan. The piece above by event curator and Japanese calligrapher, Aoi Yamaguchi, was part of a handful of works selected for auction.
From a critical perspective, I’d have to say that whereas the art shown during the first stage of the benefit (at Kokoro and Heist) was in my opinion, for the most part, pretty spectacular, the art at ARC was kind of all over the place. I was able to visit the gallery shortly before they opened and take some photos. I returned around 10PM, and there were many pieces gone from the walls, so what do I know?
