"Brush Brush"

Newly 40 product designer Jason Taylor resolved to create a new object everyday of 2012. As you may know, I’ve got a thing for everyday objects, and Jason “Made” Taylor is fast approaching his 100th Everyday Object. Of the ambitious project, he says:

‘I’ve loved doing it as it forces you to do anything – I’m not saying it’s always good, but it just pushes you to do something. Sometimes you’re not inspired but you’ve got to do it and just switch off. It’s about playing without any purpose.’

I couldn’t agree more. Writing a daily blog–or any creative everyday pursuit–works the same way.

"Not sew"

Not only are Taylor’s objects inspiring, but the designer also clearly enjoys language. (See Magritte riff “This is Not Sew” above). While his output may not be particularly practical (see everything tagged #chindogu), it sure is fun.

[chindogu is the Japanese art of inventing ingenious everyday gadgets that seem like an ideal solution to a particular problem; however, anyone actually attempting to use one of these inventions would find that it causes so many new problems, or such significant social embarrassment, that effectively it has no utility whatsoever.]

For Object #64, an electrical scourer, Taylor writes:

“Duracell + magnet + scourer = an object that couldn’t be more useless – I love it.”
