R.I.P. Maurice Sendak

R.I.P. Maurice Sendak

Beloved author and illustrator, Maurice Sendak, passed away today of complications from a recent stroke. He was 83. I grew up loving (and living) Sendak’s classic children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are. The New York Times has more on Sendak’s many contributions to popular culture.

Lots and lots of artists have been influenced by Maurice Sendak and Where the Wild Things Are in the nearly 50 years since it was first published. My friend, the food artist, Anna the Red, paid tribute by way of her gorgeous bento boxes here and here and here.

R.I.P. Maurice Sendak. And thank you. Say hi to MCA.
