My buddy Mathias over at Toy Architects just sent notice of the special edition “task force” of Cavy the Hamsters he made for Super Cooper’s recent “Stop It!” group art show. The event featured over 100 artists with the goal of drawing attention to bullying. As news of Jamey Rodemeyer’s bullying-induced suicide gains national attention, we are reminded of just how much the world needs more positive messages about people who are different.
To that extent, Toy Architects made each hamster a one-of-a-kind. Some have different types of arms, for instance. (I like the fella in the back with one pink arm.) All of the hamsters are flocked, providing a soft tactile coating over the hard resin body. Perhaps this is Toy Architects’ way of saying that the hamsters may look cute, but they are STRONG inside.
The special Stop Bullying Hamster contingency flew all the way to LA from Germany, missing the opening of “Stop It!” by two days. A message this important is never too late though; what matters is that it gets out there. Work from “Stop It!” can be purchased online here.
