Realistic Giant Plush Pancakes

Todd VonBastiaans, in collaboration with Bryan McCarthy, presents a retail installation of giant plush pancakes at Trifecta Gallery in (where else, but) Las Vegas.

The hyper-realistic plush soft sculptured pancakes not only look but feel just like the real thing.  The non-subtle scale and luxury fabric trims accent a taste for fashion and drama.   The result is a sensory and magic experience where they serve up the good design of an ordinary object and flip it to a level of contemporary functional art. Each unique work can be purchased alone or order up a stack. Use them as a single sculpture, stack them for a coffee table, extra seating or an outrageous ottoman. Your personal style will be reflected in these contemporary art furnishings.   Fashionably delicious!

The pancakes are priced from $500-$1,200 (“Butter pat pillow free with multiple purchase”). I like the tagline on VonBastiaans’ website that calls his work “curated retail”. I also like the idea of “flipping it to a level of contemporary functional art.” I guess if you’re really deeply into plush pancakes, you could conceivably score a Heidi Kenney pancake from Kidrobot for a fraction of these prices. However, if you find yourself hitting the jackpot in a Vegas casino, this is one buffet you won’t want to miss. Pancake, Bed and Breakfast runs through July 29th.

Jeremy thinks...

Olly Moss: "If you look at classic art, a lot of it is religious and mythic iconography and symbolism. Now a days it’s a similar thing: It’s just instead of having Hercules, Athena and Apollo it’s Darth Vader and Optimus Prime."
