Apologies in advance for referring to myself in the third person in the title of this post, but I’m really excited, and the opportunity to alliterate was irresistible. As the first company to produce a Barack Obama toy, The Jailbreak Collective inspired my ToyCyte column “Playing With Politics”. That series helped define what I wanted to do with my toy writing, which was, and still is, write about toys within the context of cultural commentary.
I’ve wanted to work with Jailbreak, and vice versa, since we met at Art Basel in 2009. We have lots of things in the pipeline–some related to toys, some not. Do yourself a favor and add their blog feed to your RSS reader. I’m looking forward to this new space to post my thoughts on life outside of toyland. In my premiere post, I took some pot shots at Posh Tots. Jason, Alyssa and Quincy (not pictured) are great people. Read their welcome aboard letter here. Stay tuned for excellent things ahead.
