custoMONDAY was a project I created that ran on ToyCyte from October 27th, 2008 to June 9th 2009. Every other Monday, I interviewed an emerging artist, and we gave away an original or customized toy. The toys were all exclusively created for the custoMONDAY Project, and yes, they were all awesome. Twenty artists participated in custoMONDAY. The artists got great exposure. The fans got exclusive art. I got to play Santa. It was a ton of fun. Someday maybe I’ll do it again…

Where are they now?

Yesterday’s emerging custoMONDAY 20 are today’s established artists. A few have made production figures with toy companies, many have shown solo or as part of groups nationally and internationally, one saw his figure auctioned in London, one was tapped by Kidrobot to recreate his custoMONDAY piece for their NY store, and all continue to work in the medium of toy art. I’m happy to have been involved with them while they were “emerging,” and I’m pleased to still call many of them my friends.

Since ToyCyte’s owners took it offline without getting in touch with me, I’ve been working to re-post my favorite stories. I’m rebuilding the custoMONDAY archive bit by bit. Please bookmark this page and check back. The original interviews will all soon be available again as blog posts. Because interaction was such a vital part of custoMONDAY, I’ve also created PDF files that include reader comments. Enjoy!
