I’m usually a big fan of convergences (those serendipitous occasions where two or more things cross paths) but here’s one that hopefully will remain contained in two dimensions. It seems that our favorite villain, Chris Brown [just joining us?], got his hands on Skinner’s recently released excellent art book. [See Skinner's smiley face at the ZEROFRIENDS release/signing.] The book’s title, Every Man is My Enemy, is perhaps nowhere more true than in this instance. Thus, in titular terms, Skinner’s book is the opposite of Brown’s toy: it’s smart English and not DUMENGLISH.
I asked Skinner, who has previously been very vocal against Chris Brown’s girl-beating and dog-breeding ways, what he thought of this?
well at first it was funny, then I’m like, huh.. I think this dude is really trying to get into underground art.. like.. He’s been hanging with Ron English and bigfoot and I see he has been painting and shit.. I think he’s getting into it. it’s funny though when celebrities try to commodify shit though.. They just buy their way into it.. Paying no dues…
There is indeed something ugly about this situation. I’d have thought the shy, stoner, forest-dwelling Bigfoot was above this, but then again, I thought the same thing about Ron English. Eh, everyone deserves a paycheck, right? We’ll always have the memory of this car that Bigfoot customized for free, on-the-spot in Sactown. You can also pick up your own copy of Skinner’s book for less than $30 online here. Remember folks: keep it green!
If you’re not on Twitter or Instagram, chances are this post won’t make a lot of sense to you. The least I can do is explain the use of “UnCollabo” in the title. Click through.
