Hello Kitty fandom is a boundary-breaking melting pot of children and kidults who like cute animals and grown men who like cute animals and also heavy metal and Satan (references cited: Frank Kozik, Buff Monster). The only division in the ranks seems to come from critics of Sanrio’s so-called “too cute” complex. My buddy, Yosiell Lorenzo, has the solution: Sanrio Sicklings.
Lorenzo created a series of three original paintings featuring Sanrio characters mashed up with his original creation, The Sicklings. The paintings, which feature Hello Kitty, Chococat and My Melody, are 8″x10″ mixed media on canvas (framed 11″x13″) for $175 each. He is also offering 5″x7″ giclee prints using archival inks on fine art 230gsm canvas paper. The prints are an edition of 7 for $10 each. Two sets of all three prints will be sold for the discounted price of $25. All prints will come in hand-embellished envelopes. Everything goes on sale at Shoppe Lorenzo tomorrow, Friday September 9th at 11AM PST.
Yosi is also taking commissions for other Sanrio Sicklings (Herro? Kerropi!) paintings. He’s a really good guy, so just get past your fears of Puerto Ricans with shaved heads and drop him a line at yosielllorenzo [at] gmail [dot] com.
