Pixelated Retro Designer Glasses by Dzmitry Samal

I’m just going to come right out and say that these pixelated designer glasses by Paris-based Belarusian designer, Dzmitry Samal, are totally rad. It’s retro-futurism at its finest!

Samal’s designer glasses collection features bitmap frames in several styles distinguished by DPI (dots per inch). The designer eyeglasses are meant to reflect our fascination with the “informational aesthetic”and fond nostalgia for 1980s computer graphics and video games.

These DPI glasses are so cool that even Sarah Michelle “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” Gellar wears them. Just kidding. That’s actually Polish model Monika Ekiert (above), as photographed by Aurelien Godet. (But you don’t need glasses to think she looks just like Buffy, right?)

Samal is a conceptual designer whose previous work includes the human furniture collection and a lamp that looks like Karl Lagerfeld. His mission with this project was to show that even “something as utilitarian as glasses” can be transformed using technology.

Samal’s eyewear collection is designed and manufactured by hand entirely in France. The frames are acetate and they can be fitted with transparent, solar or prescription lenses. Instead of the usual dull glasses case, Samal’s DPIs come in protective packaging that looks kind of like Mad Max meets Tron.
