Inside Out Knit Toys by Atelier Volvox

Samuel Coendet and Lea Gerber of Zurich based Atelier Volvox collected discarded stuffed animals from “second-hand shops and forgotten corners of nursery schools”. They then vivisected them and flipped them inside out.

They called these toys The Outsiders. The project received the Recycling Design Preis 2012 in Germany last week. The designers write:

Outsiders are second-hand plush toys of various forms and sizes, who are given a new life by opening, reversing and resewing them. Due to this procedure an old, worn plush toy becomes a “brand new” product – with a slightly different look. Despite their bizarre appearance, however, Outsiders are friendly and adorable.

Hmmm…Outsiders look kinda nightmarish to me. For instance, these are unintentionally sad discarded plush toys. And the Outsiders are perhaps unintentionally scary.
