Hair Art of Giorgia Zanellato: Combs From Human Hair and Resin

Keeping things crafty, here’s something different. Italian designer, Giorgia Zanellato, wanted to confront the waste factor of leftover hair in Lausanne’s many hair salons. So, she devised a process to recycle the hair into hair accessories.

Entitled “Hairdressed,” the series is menagerie of hair combs and accessories
made from fallen follicles and resin.

Zanellato experimented with organic materials like wood and felt and used resin as a bonding agent. She pours the mix into molds and then laser cuts the hardened forms.

Zanellato created “Hairdressed” back in 2009, but thankfully, the Internet keeps everything coming back around. If you enjoyed this story, you might want to check out Augstina Woodgate, who from 2004-2008, set up mobile haircut stations in cities around the world and then used the hair to make hairbrushes, castles and slippers.
