The Contractor Porcelain by Todd James x TOYKYO

The Contractor by Todd James

And from creative carpets of The Netherlands, let’s hop over to prophetic art multiples from Belgium! You may already know I’m a big fan of Toykyo [tagged | interviewed]. The Ghent-based company has produced another sculpture for graffiti artist, Todd James, and it looks like they’ve stepped things up from the resin Dumparoo. This new limited edition Toykyo x Todd James piece is called The Contractor.

Two versions are available: an edition of 25 in shiny black glazed porcelain (above, right) and an edition of 8 in bronze (above, left). The porcelain is available through Toykyo for €750,00 or ~ $974 USD.  Spendy, maybe, but how cool would it look next to this hand-painted resin Death Panzer by Bob Conge?

The Contractor by Todd James
The Contractor measures 7.1 inches wide, 8.7 inches high and 7.9 inches deep. It’s based on a painting Todd James created in 2008. The Lazarides gallery wrote this about James’ work:

James’ death-ink warplanes and battleships have a chunky authority that embed themselves permanently in the mind of the viewer, while his stealth bombers and cheering bikini models jostle for space with partying warships, creating a feverish mix of complex mayhem. These paintings are psychologically and literally unstoppable: The situations they depict are in full swing and degenerating by the moment, and are deeply connected to the reality of our world today.

The sculpture comes in a numbered and screen printed cardboard box.
