Hello Moss Kitty by Makoto Azuma

Japanese botanical artist Makoto Azuma had my attention when he covered an Aeron chair in green Astroturf. Now, after covering Hello Kitty in moss, he also has my heart. Azuma created Hello Moss Kitty for a Sanrio x Swarovski campaign to raise money for disaster relief. This piece, and many other artifacts involving crystals and kitty, are on view in Tokyo through July 10th. After that, they will go up for auction, with all proceeds donated to the Japanese Red Cross in continued aid of last March’s earthquake. More info here.

Jeremy thinks...

Olly Moss: "If you look at classic art, a lot of it is religious and mythic iconography and symbolism. Now a days it’s a similar thing: It’s just instead of having Hercules, Athena and Apollo it’s Darth Vader and Optimus Prime."
