The Design is Dead pencil comes from Studiolav, a London-based design duo. Their intention here is to honor the humble pencil, which they feel has been outmoded by computer-based design tools. They chose the cross because it’s a “sacred symbol…a reminder to the extinction of a companion to our creativity.” A little pretentious? Perhaps. Kind of heavy-handed? Absolutely.
